| I have had some outrageous luck buying helmets from [ www.denniskirk.com, ] the online outlet for the motorcycle shop of Dennis Kirk. They have a full selection so you can shop. But its their sale items that offer the best buys. There are lots of good buys. BRAIN BUCKET FYI - There are some Snell ratings to pay attention to. Forget the DOT ratings but DO pay attention to the Snell ratings. Helmets have a Snell letter designation followed by A vintage designation. For example Snell SA2000 or Snell M2005: SA = "Special Application" These are a better quality helmet because they are made to withstand multiple impacts and cost more to make. All track racers are required to wear SA helmets. However, most clubs do not require them for track days and will let you use the "M" helmets. M = "motorcycle." These are less expensive and less costly to make, but good for many uses. They are made for protecting your skull from only one hard cracking (go figure). You cannot use M helmets in sanctioned sports car racing but many clubs will allow them for track days, provided they are a new enough vintage. The vintage is determined by the number corresponding to years. The numbers are for every 5 years (ie Snell SA90, Snell M95, Snell SA2000, Snell M2005, etc). Since the structural integrity of a helmet weakens with age, even when not in use, a "95" is an older helmet and less protective. Be sure and buy at least a 2000 or 2005. Good luck.
